Happy Birthday, Nintendo! (And Super MarioJr. Blog!)

Super MarioJr Blog logo-Happy Birthday Nintendo (and Super MarioJr Blog)

Has it been one year already? Oh my gosh! It has! And I have done so much in one year!

And let’s not forget the even BETTER reason why I am writing this post to you today… you’ve guessed it! Today is Nintendo’s 120th anniversary!

Now some of you might be saying “What? Nintendo has been in this world for that long? But video gaming started around the 1970s!” Yes, video gaming did start around the 1970s but Nintendo was still alive and kicking way before then.

I will make a brief summary of Nintendo’s life in tribute to Nintendo. If you want a full summary, click here.

Nintendo (called Nintendo Koppai) founded in 1889 in Japan by Fusajiro Yamauchi. Nintendo, originally was a card company. They made something called “Hanafuda Cards” (even till this day, Nintendo still makes these hanafuda cards. They are special cards made for Club Nintendo members who currently have 800 coins. To learn more, click here.

These card were successful to the point were they eventually made mass-produced cards instead of hand-made cards. Nintendo Koppai became a larger company and developed a limited partnership with the United States Playing Card Company in 1956.

Between the years of 1963 and 1968, Nintendo (Nintendo Company, Limited at that time) attempted to go to businesses such as the “Love Hotel” and as a Taxi company, but failed at all of them.

Then they came into the toy business, which came successful to the point that they decided to go to the video gaming business. Nintendo then released the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) on 1981. That, plus the Game Boy became successful to the point where the video game clash of 1982 ceased to exist.

Console after console, Nintendo became more popular and their hardware was recognized by their unique features: The SNES for its 16-bit graphics, the Game Boy Color for being the first portable to have color without assistance, the Nintendo 64 for the first Nintendo console with out assistance of a game card, the GameCube as the fastest-selling console of the console-line, the Game Boy Advance for the sharp 2-D graphics, and now, the Nintendo DS, Nintendo DSi, and Wii, for the touch-screen, downloadable content, and motion control respectfully.

Yes, they had a great 120 years. And hopefully we will have that same great quality that Nintendo always given us for the next 120 years and beyond.

Happy Birthday, Nintendo, and enjoy your 120 anniversary!!!

NPD Results: July 2009

Super MarioJr Blog-Lastest NPD Results

Things get from bad to worse in this month’s NPD results report.

When everyone (including Nintendo had said that the Wii’s sales will be low in the first-half of this year but will bounce back up again by the last-half… they might want to rethink that. As the Wii sales become dangerously close to Xbox 360 sales, the Nintendo DS series is not too far behind.

Nintendo DS series: 538,900

Wii: 252,500

Xbox 360: 202,900

PSP: 122,800

Playstation 3: 121,800

Playstation 2: 108,000

The software side, however, were… better. Wii Sports Resort still sells strong and both Mario Kart Wii & DS and New Super Mario Bros. are still stuck in the NPD Top 10 (but, in a good way… oh and Wii Fit is officially the fastest-selling game of the year… I bet you my Wii.)

  1. Wii Sport Resort – Wii: 508,200
  2. NCAA Football – Xbox 360: 376,500
  3. NCAA Football – Playstation 3: 237,400
  4. Wii Fit – Wii: 164,300
  5. Mario Kart Wii – Wii: 156,600
  6. Mario Kart DS – Nintendo DS: 132,200
  7. Pokémon Platinum Version РNintendo DS: 116,400
  8. Fight Night Round 4 – Xbox 360: 116,400
  9. New Super Mario Bros. – Nintendo DS: 101,800
  10. EA Sports Active – Wii: 96,800

My thoughts: Now there is a reason why I waited a few days to posted the results. Because I wanted to wait until I hear enough people saying that Nintendo will fail this holiday.

With the Xbox 360 Elite and PS3 at $50 ($30 in Canada) less than the Wii, the PS3 Slim, PSP Go!, iPhone’s quick popularity increase in terms of games, the few AAA tiles on ALL consoles that will be released between Metroid Prime Trilogy’s release date (August 24… already passed) and Final Fantasy XIII’s released date (sorry but Final Fantasy XIV Online won’t stand a chance… on PS3), many people are giving negative views about the Wii and Nintendo DS/DSi and the Sony and Microsoft fanboys are PRAYING that they Wii loses this years holiday season.

I have one thing to say to ALL of you… it’s too early to tell.

The way this works is this: There are at least two more conferences: Tokyo Game Show (not a conference) and Nintendo’s official conference. IF Nintendo would announce a price drop on all consoles (Nintendo DS lite, Nintendo DSi and Wii) and announce something big, then the Tokyo Game Show (not a conference)… may not be the ideal conference (not a confe… ok, now this is getting annoying) to announce it there. Thus, Nintendo’s official conference is Nintendo only hope into announcing that price cut (and other things).

If I had it my way it would be this:

1. The Wii, Nintendo DS lite, and Nintendo DSi will have the following price drops:

a. Wii: $199.99 in the Americas, €129.99 in Europe/PAL, ¥17049 in Japan.

b. Nintendo DS lite: $99.99 in Americas, €69.99 in Europe/PAL, ¥8482 in Japan.

c. Nintendo DSi: $149.99 in Americas, €99.99 in Europe/PAL, ¥12850 in Japan.

2. A faster Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection OR that and they merge Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, WiiWare, Virtual Console, DSiWare, all Wii Shop Channel accounts, all Nintendo DSi Shop accounts, WiiConnect24, and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Pay-and Play into one service and merge that service into Club Nintendo of America, Europe, Japan, Australia, and South Africa (yes South Africa has a Club Nintendo AND a Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service… it’s owned by NOE (Nintendo of Europe) making Club Nintendo a) more reliable (logging in onto Nintendo’s website via Club Nintendo, being able to go on Club Nintendo and queue downloads from your Nintendo DSi and Wii, being able to always be logged on your Club Nintendo account on your Wii [WiiConnect24] and Nintendo DSi [DSiConnect24… just kidding], the ability to have FOURMS not tech-support… REGULAR FOURMS like before… before they overhauled their website, the ability to have achievements, the ability to patch games, the ability to… oh I ran out of ideas so I’ll just put in etc.) and b) being a more competitive online service than Playstation Network and Xbox Live (because let me tell you… the only reason why Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is getting negative views about itself is because it feels like it is broken… I mean come on!… 7 services!? mini-services on a large service would be fine but 7?)

3. At least a 60 GB hard drive on the Wii.

4. … that’s it. (Hopefully, ALL of that will be true).

So I’ll I can say is… when August 2009 comes out… it will be one interesting result.

Flip Note Studio available for download: August 12, 2009

Super MarioJr Blog-Nintendo Shop Update

The wait is over! European and North American fans will be happy to know that Flipnote Studio will be available for download on the Nintendo DSi Shop!

This one-of-a-time application is an animation program that lets you create animations called “Flipnotes.” You can use brushes, pencils, and other things to draw pictures and animate them as you go.

Once you’ve completed your animation, you can share them with other DSi owners who also owns Flipnote Studio and, if you allow them, they can update or improve them and send it back to you! Think of it as Wii Music only it’s everything that Wii Music should of been it terms of sharing replays.

But wait! That’s not all! If you are a Hatena member, you can upload your animations for everyone around the world! All they have to do is either view them via Flipnote Hatena (included with Flipnote Studio) or go to http://flipnote.hatena.com/ and view them there!

Speaking of that, if anyone wants to check out my animations, you can check ‘em out here.

Enjoy creating your animations!

Star Wars Trilogy announced for Virtual Console

Attention all Star Wars fans! If you think Super Star Wars will be the only title that will appear on Virtual Console for the Wii, think again! Nintendo and LucasArts have joined forces to bring in the entire Star Wars Trilogy to Virtual Console!

That right Star Wars fans, Virtual Console will be the home of the three Super Nintendo games that has been so popular that is Star Wars.

Along side Super Star Wars, there will also be Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Super Star Wars: Return of the Jedi that will be appearing in Virtual Console.

But wait, it doesn’t end there! Other Wii Channels will be in the Star Wars fever. For example, the Check Mii Out Channel will let you enter contests that will let you create Miis that would look like classic Star Wars characters such as… maybe Luke Skywalker or… maybe even Darth Vader (by the way… I’ll be entering those contests as well and… who knows? Maybe I’ll get to win one of those contests!!!)

Super MarioJr Blog-Nintendo Shop Update

Hello guys! I have greater news, great news, good news, bad news, terrible news and apocalyptic news.

The greater news is… this week has a Virtual Console download! We missed you Virtual Console!

The great news is… for the first time EVER… a M for Mature game comes to the Wii Shop Channel! Thank you, Nintendo!

The good news is there is a new DSi update available… at 8 PM EDT.

The bad news is that there is a delay in the Nintendo Channel update (and Nintendo.com) about the Nintendo Downloads (that has now been fixed).

The terrible news is that Nintendo admitted that the iPhone/iPod Touch is a Nintendo DS/Nintendo DSi competitor along side PSP and the it-wants-to-kill-the-iPhone/iPod-Touch-and-Nintendo-DS/Nintendo-DSi PSP Go (yes I did do that on purpose).

The apocalyptic news… are you ready?… summer is half-over! Ok, well no one cares about that anyway. Let’s get on with the “Nintendo Shop Update,” shall we?

This week, we have 2 WiiWare games, 1 Virtual Console title, and 1 DSiWare game.
