3 WiiWare, 0 Virtual Console, and 1 DSiWare available for download: July 20, 2009

Super MarioJr Blog-Nintendo Shop Update

As I waste my time waiting for the Nintendo Channel 2.0, Flip Note Studio, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and the Nintendo DSi update that includes Facebook Connect, let’s look at this week’s “Nintendo Shop Update,” shall we?

This week we have… wait a minute? No Virtual Console? I loved Virtual Console! WHERE IS VIRTUAL CONSOLE?!?!?

Well, I guess these 3 WiiWare games and 1 DSiWare game will fill the void: the long anticipated Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord… nope doesn’t fill the void.

Battle Poker? Nope.

5 Spots Party? Nope.

Art Style: Zengage? Shame on you, Nintendo!

NPD Results – June 2009

Super MarioJr Blog-Lastest NPD Results

As the recession finally gives signs of eating the video game industry, another pathetic report comes from the NPD.

On the hardware side, once again, as always, the Nintendo DS series and Wii goes in first and second place respectfully, with the Nintendo DS series going way ahead than the Wii. The rivals are at least 100,000 units behind from Wii.

Nintendo DS series: 766, 500

Wii: 361, 700

Xbox 360: 240, 600

Playstation 3: 164, 700

PSP: 163, 500

Playstation 2: 152, 700

The software side of things, games were mixed up. Prototype for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 had poor user reviews but despite of that, it came first place in sales. 4 Wii games made it to the top 10, as well as 2 Playstation 3 games and 4 Xbox 360 games (poor DS didn’t get a single one.)

  1. Prototype—Xbox 360: 419, 900
  2. UFC 2009: Undisputed—Xbox 360: 338, 300
  3. EA Sports Active—Wii: 289, 100
  4. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10—Wii: 272, 400
  5. Wii Fit—Wii: 271, 600
  6. Fight Night Round 4—Xbox 360: 260, 800
  7. Fight Night Round 4—Playstation 3: 210, 300
  8. Mario Kart Wii—Wii: 202, 100
  9. Red Fraction: Guerrilla—Xbox 360: 199, 400
  10. Infamous—Playstation 3: 192, 700

My thoughts: Basically, I have one word to say: pathetic. For the last 3 months there has been lame sales for all consoles (yes, that includes Wii and the Nintendo DS series… you might not believe it until you separate the Nintendo DS lite and Nintendo DSi’s sales: DSi: 424, 000; DS lite: 342, 000). Also, two things were surprising: 1) Wii MotionPlus was supposed to boost sales for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and Grand Slam Tennis… it boosted Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10… but not Grand Slam Tennis; hopefully it will get Wii Sports Resort, which releases in just a few days, in the top 10. 2) The Conduit, surprisingly wasn’t in the top 10… it only made about 72, 000 units… but that is for 11 days. But, what can we do… we are in a recession: a time to cut back (a tiny bit) on entertainment. And June are one of those slow months in the gaming industry anyway. Hopefully July will be better.

Wii System Update: 4.1

Wii Update

An update from Nintendo has arrived. Version 4.1. This is a small update that fixes some changes for better system performance. The changes are:

Accessory Updates:

  • A bug has been fixed so that you are not forced to watch the “how to use MotionPlus” tutorial when you open a Wii Channel, WiiWare game, or Virtual Console title via SD Card Menu.

Despite the fact that Nintendo has said that any unauthorized materials will be removed, the system update actually leaves the homebrew software alone. However, please note that if you have any homebrew materials installed, you may not be able to access the Wii Options menu and eventually you may not be able to access your Wii at all.

I advise you to either avoid 4.1 until the homebrew community can find a work around (this applies if you have the homebrew channel installed or you wish to install the homebrew channel) or do not install the homebrew channel.

Estimated time: 23 sec. (If you have System Update 4.0), (depends on your internet connection).

2009 Club Nintendo rewards announced

Well this is it… the moment that you have been all waiting for… the Club Nintendo rewards!

Club Nintendo Elite Status rewards are special rewards that are for people who have reached Gold or Platinum status. I am, of course, a platinum Club Nintendo member, therefore, I will get one of the special rewards. What will I get? Well I will tell you later in the post.

So, without further a do, let’s take a look at the rewards:

Cub Nintendo rewards

As for me, I would be choosing Doc Louis’s Punch Out!!. I would’ve chosen the Mario hat… but it just doesn’t measure up to the Mario hat in Japan.

Don’t worry if you don’t become a Gold or Platinum status for the 2008-2009 Club Nintendo year! If you missed this year, you can register your Wii, WiiWare, Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSiWare games and apps by June 30, 2010! If you don’t have a Club Nintendo account, well… what are you waiting for? Join Club Nintendo today!
